November 1, 2010 is an important milestone to us. It is the 20-year anniversary of the opening of this office in southwest Denver, Co. We have been privileged to participate in the many improvements in hearing aids over those twenty years.

One improvement is the development of placing the receiver (speaker) of the hearing aid into the ear canal. The system, often referred to as receiver in the ear (RITE) or receiver in the canal (RIC), allows the reproduction of sound to occur in the ear canal.  For the person with a mild to moderate hearing loss, this system offers many potential advantages. The RITE instrument is favored because of it’s small size, lack of visibility, improved comfort, and improved performance.

Another improvement is the development of digital hearing aids. Digital hearing aids have provided improvements in the following areas:

  • Improved gain processing allowing greater audibility of sounds without discomfort of the sounds become too loud
  • Digital noise reduction works to reduce the annoyance of background noises and improving speech recognition in noise
  • Digital speech enhancement  processes to improve intelligibility of speech

These improvements result in greater comfort and improved sound reproduction. Patient satisfaction with hearing aids has increased with the use of digital sound processing.

We’re looking forward to the improvements that will occur in the years to come.
